Light Up Your Skincare Routine: The Power of Light, Beyond the Treatment Room
The Power of LED Light Therapy at Home: Why We Recommend Omnilux

Professional skincare treatments do not have to end when you leave our office. In fact, what you do at home between treatments can have a significant impact on maintaining and supporting the results you achieve with professional care.
One of our favorite ways to extend that professional level of skincare into your home routine is with LED light therapy, but not just any at home LED device. At Radiance Advanced Skincare & Laser, we offer Omnilux LED devices because we believe that effective home care should be backed by science, clinically studied technology, and a treatment protocol that is realistic enough to actually become part of your routine.
LED light therapy is not a new concept. Omnilux has been developing and studying LED technology for nearly two decades, and its technology has been featured in more than 40 peer reviewed clinical studies. This is one of the reasons we chose Omnilux for our clients rather than simply selecting an LED mask because it is popular or trending on social media.
What Is LED Light Therapy?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Unlike ultraviolet light, which can damage the skin, LED therapy uses specific wavelengths of non UV light to interact with cells and support natural biological processes within the skin.
Different wavelengths have different purposes. Red light and near infrared light are commonly used for skin rejuvenation, while blue light is used for acne because of its ability to target acne causing bacteria.
The key is that LED therapy is not simply about seeing a particular color of light. The wavelength, energy output, treatment time, coverage, and consistency all matter. This is where there can be a significant difference between a clinically developed LED device and a mask that simply looks impressive on social media.
How Does LED Light Therapy Benefit the Skin?
Different wavelengths of LED light are used for different skin concerns. This is one of the most important things to understand when choosing an at home LED device, because the color of the light is not simply a cosmetic feature. Specific wavelengths are selected based on how they interact with the skin.
Omnilux Contour Face and Contour Neck & Décolleté use two specific wavelengths, 633nm red light and 830nm near infrared light. The 633nm red wavelength works at the cellular level to support the skin's natural repair and renewal processes, while the deeper penetrating 830nm near infrared wavelength helps support cellular activity associated with the skin's natural production of collagen and elastin. With consistent use, this combination can help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, firmness, tone and overall skin quality.
Omnilux Clear uses a different combination of wavelengths because it is designed for a different skin concern. It combines 415nm blue light with 633nm red light. The blue light targets acne causing bacteria, while the red light helps support the skin's natural healing response and address inflammation associated with breakouts.
This distinction is important because LED therapy is not a one size fits all treatment. The appropriate wavelengths depend on what you are trying to address. Contour is designed with skin rejuvenation in mind, while Clear is specifically designed for acne prone skin.
This is why we view LED therapy as a supportive treatment rather than a replacement for professional skincare. It is another tool that allows you to continue supporting your skin between appointments and complement the treatments you receive here at Radiance.
Why At Home LED Therapy Makes Sense
One of the biggest advantages of LED therapy is how easily it can fit into your life. The Omnilux devices require just a 10 minute treatment, three times per week. The device is portable and hands free, allowing you to incorporate your treatment into your routine without having to dedicate a significant amount of time to it.
And perhaps most importantly, consistency matters more than doing a long treatment occasionally. LED therapy is designed to be cumulative, meaning that regular use is an important part of seeing and maintaining results.
Omnilux Contour Face
For clients primarily concerned with skin aging, fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, uneven tone and overall skin quality, Omnilux Contour Face is the device we recommend.
Contour combines 633nm red light with 830nm near infrared light to target both surface and deeper cellular processes associated with skin rejuvenation. The device is FDA cleared for the treatment of full face wrinkles and uses 132 LEDs across 66 LED bulbs.
With consistent use, Omnilux reports that visible improvements can begin around four weeks, although individual results will vary. The goal is not an overnight transformation. Instead, LED therapy is about supporting healthier looking skin over time and maintaining that progress with continued use.
Omnilux Contour Neck & Décolleté
We often put considerable effort into caring for the skin on our face while neglecting the neck and chest. The neck and décolleté are exposed to many of the same environmental factors as the face, including UV exposure, and they can show visible signs of aging, including fine lines, uneven texture and loss of firmness.
The Omnilux Contour Neck & Décolleté device was specifically designed to treat these areas using the same 633nm red and 830nm near infrared wavelengths used in the Contour Face device. Like the face mask, the recommended protocol is three 10 minute treatments per week.
For clients investing in professional facial treatments, we believe continuing that same level of attention down through the neck and décolleté reflects a more complete philosophy of skin health, care, and prevention.
Omnilux Clear for Acne Prone Skin
Not every client needs the same type of LED therapy. For clients dealing with mild to moderate acne, Omnilux Clear uses a different combination of wavelengths. It combines 415nm blue light with 633nm red light.
Blue light is used to target acne causing bacteria, while red light helps address inflammation and supports the skin's natural healing response. The recommended protocol for Omnilux Clear is four treatments per week for six weeks. Once the initial series is complete, use the device at the earliest signs of a breakout. Like Contour, consistency is important when using Clear, and the device should be used according to the manufacturer's recommended treatment schedule.
Why We Chose Omnilux
There are more LED masks available today than ever before. A quick search online can bring up dozens of options at dramatically different price points, and it can be difficult to know what actually matters when comparing them.
For us, it comes down to the technology behind the device. We did not choose Omnilux simply because LED masks are popular. We chose it because Omnilux has a long history in medical LED technology, specific clinically evaluated wavelengths, FDA cleared devices for their intended uses, and published clinical research supporting its technology. Omnilux devices have been profiled in more than 40 independent, peer reviewed clinical studies.
Not every LED mask is created equal. Some devices may provide light without having the same level of clinical research, regulatory clearance, or evidence behind their specific wavelengths and intended uses. When you are investing in a professional skincare device to use at home, we believe the science behind the device is just as important as the device itself.
A common misconception is that an LED mask is effective simply because it has a lot of lights or because it offers multiple colors. LED therapy is much more specific than that. The wavelength of light determines what the light is intended to target. Red, near infrared and blue light have different applications, which is why Omnilux has different devices designed for different skin concerns. This is also why we do not recommend choosing an LED device based solely on price, the number of colors it offers, or what happens to be trending on TikTok or Instagram. The goal should be to choose technology that has been developed and studied for the specific concern you are trying to address.
How LED Therapy Works With Your Professional Treatments
One of our favorite things about LED therapy is that it can complement the professional treatments you are already receiving at Radiance. Professional treatments are designed to create more significant, targeted changes in the skin. Your home skincare routine then helps support and maintain those results between appointments.
LED therapy can be incorporated alongside many professional skincare routines and is particularly useful as a maintenance tool. Omnilux also notes that Contour can complement treatments such as microneedling by supporting the skin's healing process.
Think of your professional treatments as the work we do together in the office, and your home care as the continued support your skin receives between appointments. The two work together.
Getting the Most From Your Omnilux
The most important part of using an LED device is consistency and compliance. When using your Omnilux mask your skin should be clean and free of products that could interfere with the light reaching the skin. Omnilux recommends avoiding unauthorized products underneath the device because they can affect light transmission or potentially cause a reaction.
And remember, more is not necessarily better. Omnilux does not recommend using their devices more than a few times per week as daily use has not been studied for that application. Following the recommended protocol is the best way to use the device as intended.
Professional Skincare Does Not Stop When You Leave Radiance
