Transitioning Your Skincare From Summer to Fall

Finding a skincare routine that fits the needs of your environment

Susie's Story:

Susie had a wonderful Summer. In spite of the quarantine and the fact that she’s now entering her senior year of college online from her childhood bedroom, the Summer of 2020 was one for the books. She got back in touch with nature, spending most of her time finding new hikes throughout New England. After many long days in the sun, and many sweaty treks through the mountains, Susie has noticed sun damage on her forehead, acne scarring from recent breakouts and increasingly, dry skin. Susie stopped by Radiance Advanced Skincare & Laser and we were able to treat her skin concerns while educating her to prevent further skin damage.

Why is Fall the best time to get back on track with a skincare routine?

These few months allow us a window of time after the Summer sun sets and before we start hearing jingle bells to fit in a series of treatments to address more complex skin concerns as well as alter our skincare routine to fit the needs of our environment.

Treatment Series

Many treatments address more complex skin concerns such as sun spots, acne scarring or hyperpigmentation. These require a series of treatments for optimal results. Chemical peels, laser treatments and microneedling all fall under this category. Shorter days in the fall and less sun exposure, provide the proper time frame to heal post treatment. Most advanced treatments require 3 sessions at 4 week intervals. Thus, we see glowing skin for the holidays.

Addressing Dry Skin

Chlorine, sun exposure and excessive sweating all increase dry skin in the Summer months. Fall brings less humidity, dry air and dry, itchy skin. It is the best time to counteract sun damage and focus on hydration before Winter begins. A deep cleansing facial with deep exfoliation can jump start this process and remove build up and dry skin from the Summer. Changing skincare products from light gels and moisturizers to deep penetrating creams can also help skin stay hydrated in the lower moisture months ahead.

Timing

All too often in the Summer time we see clients who want to address their skin concerns but they can’t agree to the downtime because of a family vacation or prior engagement.  With Summer vacations over and the holidays only a few months away, the Fall is the optimal time to start skin treatments.  Decide to commit and you’ll be skin confident.

Susie's Resolution

In Susie's case we can squeeze in a few Intense Pulsed Light treatments combined with a chemical peel or two before the holidays to address her sun damage. We will also start her on an appropriate at home skincare routine to tackle her dry skin, breakouts and scarring. After formulating a 3-month skincare plan, she is back on track and her skin will look healthy and bright for the holidays!
