3 Key Factors In Your Laser Hair Removal Outcome

Hair-Free, Care-Free Summer!

Let us help you achieve your most confident self this year. It’s time to show off those legs, throw your arms above your head, and let the sunshine in! Laser hair removal can help you turn your razor shackled summer into a care-free, hair-free season. Learn the three key factors that can influence your Laser Hair Removal outcome, the science behind the treatment and more!

Three key factors that can influence your laser hair removal outcome:

  1. Skin type, Hair Color & Density: The pigment of your skin/hair and thickness of your hair will play a key role in the laser’s overall effectiveness in removing your hair.
  2. Aftercare commitment: Laser Hair Removal is permanent hair reduction and thus requires yearly maintenance treatments to maintain results.
  3. Genetics: Different genetic predispositions can affect the success of laser such as fluctuating hormone levels, menopause or PCOS.

Laser Hair Removal uses a concentrated beam of light that is converted into heat. This heat damages the hair follicles that produce hair and over time the damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. This treatment is a cumulative process that requires the hair follicle to be damaged multiple times. The number of sessions required to permanently reduce hair growth does depend on the hair color, area of the body and the client’s health history. In addition, Laser Hair Removal is NOT effective on red, grey, white or blonde hairs. At Radiance Advanced Skincare & Laser, we estimate 8-10 sessions at 4-8 week intervals are necessary for desired results. Depending on the area of the body you are treating, appointments range from 10-30 minutes. Your appointment may be longer if you are treating more than one area of the body.

Laser Hair Removal is permanent hair reduction. Once an area has fully been treated, there will be on average 90% loss of hair in the area. Most people will see this level of reduction, however hormone changes detailed below can cause regrowth. Maintenance treatments are necessary to maintain hair reduction on a yearly basis. The treatment is MOST effective on people with lighter complexions and darker hair. This is because the pigment contrast between the skin and hair makes it easier for the laser to target the hair and destroy the follicle. However, it IS effective on clients

with darker skin tones or light brown hair but may require more treatments than others to achieve their desired results.

As a professional skincare clinic, we will not perform any procedures without first assessing your medical history, current health condition and possible side effects.

Side effects may include:

  • Mild swelling around the hair follicles
  • Pigment changes may occur especially in those with darker skin-these changes are usually temporary
  • Slight redness of the skin
  • Temporary irritation resulting in blistering, scarring or other changes in skin texture.
  • Anyone who has tanned, spray tanned, used self- tanner or has gone in a tanning booth should wait until the tan has faded.

Women with genetic predispositions such as fluctuating hormone levels, menopause or PCOS may require more treatments to achieve their desired result. PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a condition that creates hormone imbalances in women. This may increase the presence of testosterone thus making laser hair removal less likely to be completed at 8-10 treatments. The laser treatments may remove the existing hair for these clients but the excess male hormones will stimulate regrowth more quickly than a client without hormone imbalances. The treatment remains extremely successful and often necessary for those with imbalances, and we like to have those clients think of it as a tool that they will have to utilize long term.

The effectiveness of Laser Hair Removal can depend on the clients skin type / hair density, after care commitment and genetic predispositions.  Book a free consultation today at Radiance Advanced Skincare & Laser to speak with our skincare professionals and see if you are a good candidate for a hair-free, care-free summer!
